In 1986, Department 56 released two new collections made of resin- Victorian Miniatures and Williamsburg Miniatures. These buildings were not based on existing village buildings or and large scale porcelain collection.
The Williamsburg Miniatures consists of six individual buildings inspired by those found in Colonial Virginia and the surrounding area. Each building was wrapped in bubble wrap and packaged in individual, heavy corrugated, top-load cardboard boxes with black and white graphics of the building on the front.
